SUPERVISORY DEVELOPMENT

Description. Increased competition, technology changes, customer demands for higher quality and the need to produce more with less, all present a challenge. Companies are facing pressures including the need to understand and deal with a workforce which expects to be involved in decisions which affect them.

These pressures are most felt by first line managers - the supervisors - who need practical leadership skills for use every day. In the past 'managing' often meant 'running a tight ship', 'fighting fires' and 'getting the product out of the door'. These continue to be important responsibilities, but a broader 'leadership' role is needed that includes: coaching and developing people; collaborating with peers; team building; motivating others; encouraging employee involvement; setting and revising performance expectations. This programme builds the skills needed to manage interactions effectively.

Objectives. At the end of the seminar-workshop, the participants will be able
to:
· Exhibit a better appreciation of himself as a responsible leader in the
  organizations;
· Improve human relations, skills and ability to handle conflict at work; and
· Apply the principles of effective supervision in their work place.

Methodology. The seminar-workshop will make use of substantial lecturettes, structured learning experiences, role playing and group discussions, and presentations.

Who should attend. This programme is designed for team leaders, supervisors and anyone responsible for a work team.
