ADVANCED DESKTOP MAPPING

Description. This training is a follow-up course to the Basic Desktop Mapping seminar, wherein participants will be taught to convert analog maps to digital ones and do GPS survey.

Objectives. The three-day hands on training will enable participants to explain how GIS works, to georeference scanned maps, to extract data from scanned maps, to use GPS to gather data and to incorporate GPS data into GIS.

Methodology.
This three-day seminar will make use of substantial input sessions, presentations, discussions and hands-on exercises.

Who should attend. It is assumed that participants have attended the Basic Desktop Mapping seminar. Confident in their use of a Personal Computer. Basic computer and research skills are required. Participants should know how to use a PC.

DAY 1 : ARCVIEW REFRESHER
  
 * Getting Data into ArcView
   * Working with Tables
   * Creating and Editing Shapefiles
   * Analyzing Spatial Relationships


DAY 2
GEOREFERENCE SCANNED MAP
   * Heads Up Digitizing

INTRODUCTION TO GPS
   * What is GPS?
   * Data Gathering using GPS
   * Downloading of Data
   * Incorporating GPS Data to ArcView

DAY 3: GPS SURVEY
   * Survey using GPS
   * Incorporating GPS data to ArcView
